The Goodwill Industries Foundation of Central Indiana was founded in 1971 to assist Goodwill Industries in establishing and expanding vocational, educational and other workforce services. During the past three decades, the Goodwill Industries Foundation has become a major financial contributor to Goodwill's services that support the constantly changing needs of the central Indiana workforce.

Contributions to the Goodwill Industries Foundation further strengthen Goodwill's efforts to help adults and young people improve their education, skills, employability and economic self-sufficiency.

Goodwill prepares people for jobs...and more!

Goodwill began a recycling initiative in June 2008. This initiative created new jobs while making it possible for Goodwill to remain a good steward of the environment. One of the new recycling employees says...

"I don’t know where I would be without Goodwill. I would probably be a homeless man. Goodwill really works with me, and now I’m going to work really hard for them. I could probably go out and find a place that pays more, but Goodwill gave me an opportunity when I needed it the most. So now I want to give them my best, give them what they gave to me. I
want to work hard for Goodwill
and my team and managers
as much as I can." —Tim

Goodwill's recycling initiative has:

  • Created 21 jobs for people with physical or mental disabilities, people exiting the prison system and those whose educational background and work history make it difficult for them to find a job to support their families.
  • Operated three shifts to get the maximum benefit from recycling equipment.
  • Diverted more than 1,000,000 pounds of unsold goods from the waste stream.
  • Recycled more than 167,000 pounds of cardboard and paper used in general operations.
  • Recycled plastic films/bags, paper products, cardboard products, metals, styrofoam, plastics and household appliance wire found in donated goods.

Phil Park, recycling manager

“I enjoy seeing that we use each and every donated good to its fullest and created jobs for 21 people. The employees enjoy their work, it’s meaningful work, and it’s always improving. That’s why I love coming to work every day.”

—Phil Park, recycling manager
